Activation

Don't worry, once you've completed your payment, expect an email with your eSIM details in about 15 minutes. Remember to check your spam folder just in case it gets filtered there. You can also view your eSIM order on the Order Search page for more information.
The eSIM must be activated within 30 days of purchase. The validity period of your package begins immediately upon activation. If you are arriving in Japan within the next 30 days, you can purchase your eSIM with confidence.
The eSIM does not support setting an automatic activation date. We recommend activating your eSIM once you land in Japan or the day before your arrival.
Yes, you can. The eSIM QR code you receive after purchase can be activated any time within 30 days. Please remember that the validity period starts from the moment of activation.
Both your SIM card and eSIM can operate simultaneously. Use the SIM card primarily for calls and SMS and allocate the TokyoeSIM for data. Be cautious: keeping your SIM card active might lead to data roaming fees from your network provider for calls and SMS.
Your eSIM is designed for activation on a single device. Once removed from that device, it's not reusable. Scanning the QR code on multiple devices isn't possible.
Yes, all TokyoeSIM packages allow hotspot sharing without restrictions. However, compatibility depends on your device's model. Some devices may not support eSIM hotspot sharing. We recommend checking with your phone's manufacturer for specific compatibility details.

Set up Your eSIM Plan

After your purchase is finalized, we will send you a confirmation email containing a QR code.

To add an eSIM to your device, you have two methods. However, be aware that the exact steps may vary based on your device model and its language settings. For successful activation of the plan, ensure that you are connected to a strong WiFi network and that the Airplane Mode is turned off.

Activate by scanning the QR code
  1. Navigate to [Settings] and select [Cellular/Mobile Data].
  2. Choose [Add Cellular Plan] or [Add eSIM].
  3. Opt for [Scan QR Code] and then scan the QR code provided in your confirmation email.
  4. When the device prompts activation instructions, follow them to finalize the installation.
Activate by typing manual information
  1. Go to [Settings] > [Cellular/Mobile Data] > [Add Cellular Plan/eSIM].
  2. Choose [Enter Details Manually] after selecting [Scan QR code].
  3. Input the 'SM-DP+ Address' and 'Activation Code' as provided in your email.
  4. Adhere to the activation instructions prompted by your device to complete the setup.

  1. Go to [Settings] > [Network & Internet]. Tap the + icon next to Mobile Network.
  2. Choose [Download a SIM instead] > [Next] > [Need help?].
  3. Tap [Enter Data Manually] and input the 'Activation Code' given in your email.
  4. Adhere to the activation instructions provided on your device to finalize the setup.

Telecom operators

Your choice depends on your stay duration and data needs. We offer plans ranging from 3 to 30 days. Select a plan that closely matches your travel days. For data usage, 1GB/day usually suffices, but 3GB/day is recommended for heavier usage. Our Unlimited Plan is popular for its cost-effectiveness and unlimited data access.
TokyoeSIM’s Unlimited Plan and Daily Plan utilize Softbank’s network, while the Total Plan uses the networks of DoCoMo/KDDI.
The network your eSIM connects to is determined by the plan you purchase, not by your travel location. Our Unlimited Plan and Daily Plan use Softbank, while the Total Plan connects through DoCoMo/KDDI.

Troubleshooting

If you've correctly installed the eSIM and still can't connect to the internet, please follow the troubleshooting steps below. Importantly, DO NOT delete the eSIM, as it cannot be reinstalled or regenerated.

Apple

A. Confirm you've activated the “Data Roaming” for the newly added line.

B. Ensure you've chosen your eSIM profile under [Cellular Data]

  1. First, navigate to [Setting]
  2. Then, pick [Cellular/Mobile Data]
  3. Next, tap on [Cellular Data]
  4. Finally, select your eSIM profile

C. Proceed with a Manual Network Selection

  1. Begin by going to [Setting].
  2. From there, choose [Cellular/Mobile Data].
  3. In the Data Plans section, opt for your eSIM profile, labeled either “Secondary” or ”Travel”.
  4. Access [Network selection].
  5. Disable the automatic mode to allow for a manual network search.
  6. When presented with a list of networks, select the telecom representative of your present country.
Samsung

A. Confirm you've activated the “Data Roaming” for the newly added line.

B. Ensure you've chosen your eSIM profile under [Mobile Data]

  1. Navigate to [Setting] – Choose [Connections] – Tap on [SIM card manager].
  2. In the 'Preferred SIM card' section, pick your eSIM profile for [Mobile Data].

C. Proceed with a Manual Network Selection

  1. Open [Settings] and head to [Connections] > [Mobile networks] > [Network operators].
  2. Find and select the eSIM option located at the bottom.
  3. Deactivate the automatic mode and press [OK] to commence a search for networks.
  4. Wait briefly, and a list of accessible networks will be shown.
  5. Pick the network that corresponds to the country you're currently in.
Google

A. Confirm you've activated the “Data Roaming” for the newly added line.

B. Ensure you've chosen your eSIM profile under [Mobile Data]

  1. Navigate to [Setting] and choose [Connections] > [SIM card manager].
  2. In the 'Preferred SIM card' section, set your eSIM profile as the preferred choice for [Mobile Data].

C. Proceed with a Manual Network Selection

  1. Access [Settings] > [Network & Internet] > [Mobile networks] > [Network operators].
  2. At the bottom, tap on the eSIM option to adjust its network capabilities.
  3. Switch off the automatic mode and press OK to start the network detection process.
  4. A list of networks will populate shortly.
  5. Choose the network that pertains to your current geographical location.
  6. Finish the process by restarting your device.

If the message "The eSIM card cannot be activated right now, please try again later" appears, it's likely due to an incomplete QR code scan caused by a weak network connection. Ensure you're on a stable network, and consider manually adding the eSIM plan.

Using the QR code is the advised method for installation. However, if you face difficulties with the scan, you can opt to enter the details by hand.

Apple
  1. Navigate to [Settings] > [Cellular/Mobile Data] > [Add Cellular Plan/eSIM].
  2. Choose [Scan QR code] or [Enter Details Manually].
  3. Input the 'SM-DP+ Address' and 'Activation Code' details you received via email.
  4. When your device prompts activation instructions, adhere to them to finalize the installation.
Samsung
  1. Navigate to [Settings] > [Connections] > [SIM Card Manager] > [Add a Mobile Plan].
  2. Select [Scan Carrier QR code], then tap on [Enter Activation code].
  3. Input the 'Activation Code' you received in the email.
  4. As your device begins the activation process, adhere to the on-screen instructions to finalize the installation.
